Diet & Exercise May Not Be Enough
Optimal cellular function is impossible without proper nutrition. There is no substitute that can make up for a poor or inappropriate diet. While food is foundational to building and maintaining health, sometimes it is not enough.
I see clients that consume real whole food diets but are still suffering greatly.
Exercise or movement is also foundational. The biggest movement issue in modern society is a sedentary lifestyle. The potential harm from being sedentary is far too large to list. On the opposite end of the spectrum are the physically ‘fit’ individuals that can perform amazing physical feats on and off the field.
Unhealthy ‘fit’ clients are becoming more common
We are told so often that diet and exercise will solve your health problems. If it were only that easy. Maybe a 100+ years ago that was an effective remedy, but no longer. There are far too many variables, within and out of our control, that can interfere with cellular function and manifest outward as any possible symptom and/or disease.
Real whole food is not always enough. The key to health success is to match your diet to your unique metabolism. Your genetically determined cellular needs. There are reason why the Inuit thrived on a diet of mostly fat, some protein and little if any carbohydrates while the Bantu of South Africa thrived on carbohydrates with moderate protein and little fat.
Bio-individuality demonstrated by Weston A. Price in the 1930’s explains why the one-size-fits-all approach is doomed to failure more often than not. Many researchers are re-discovering this dietary fact yet they are still searching for a solution where one already exists. I rely on Metabolic Typing® as developed by William Wolcott to create that perfect diet for you. Metabolic Typing® makes sense and also works.
In these modern times, I understand why so many are sedentary. Society is so fast paced that there is little time to take care of yourself unless you make the time and make your health and vitality a priority. After all, what good is status and money and material goods if you don’t have the health to enjoy it?
Modern society has also created the high performance athlete or weekend warrior that is trying to have the physique and ability to physically perform at levels only possible from spending hours in the gym on a consistent basis. Marketing today is incredibly effective at manipulating the ego and developing a desire for more.
It is so common to these active individuals wrapping their joints before, during and after workouts, they are popping anti-inflammatories as if they are candy and some are practically addicted to pain killers. Don’t forget all the ‘performance-oriented’ supplements that wreak havoc on the liver, kidneys and other tissues/organs.
Is it worth sacrificing tomorrow for fleeting glory today?
When one approaches health and physical performance, consider that while you can get extremely ‘fit’ in an unhealthy body, it far easier to accomplish the same, if not more within a healthy functional body. The key to developing that healthy body lies in understanding one’s metabolic strengths, weaknesses, imbalances and dysfunctions. This is exactly what Olesky Health Coaching is all about. Taking advantage of healing opportunities in a proven, holistic and sustainable manner.
